Volunteer Information

Who Can Volunteer?

YOU can be a volunteer!

Do you want to learn more about your community while increasing your "people" skills?

Do you like variety and challenges while learning new and valuable communications skills?

Are you reliable, responsible, and timely?

Then becoming a Crisis Clinic Volunteer Paraprofessional might be for you! Our volunteers come from all walks of life, each one bringing diversity and commitment to the program.

Why Volunteer?

There are both personal and professional reasons to volunteer:
  • make a difference in someone's life.
  • learn how to REALLY listen to others.
  • gain skills and abilities to help others help themselves.
  • gain insight about yourself and your relationships to others.
  • gain valuable skills to enhance your education and resume'.
  • learn about the myriad of resources available to our community.

The following are quotes from some of our valued volunteers:

"Working in the Crisis Clinic has changed my life!"

"It has taught me a healthier way to help people"

"It will teach you tremendous life skills"

"It is a chance to help people in need"

"You go away, knowing you made a difference"

"I learn something new from every call"

How can you become a Crisis Clinic volunteer?

We offer training for new volunteers several times a year.
Training consist of:
  • Thirty-three classroom hours, provided through six evenings (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and two Saturdays over the course of two weeks.
  • Ten hours of experiential training through observing with tenured volunteers.
  • One hour of specialized training in the use of the Crisis Clinic database which includes more than 1,400 pages of information.
Then you're ready to make a commitment of one "4-hour shift" per week, plus one "graveyard shift" per month for the period of 1 year.
